The international exhibition ‘Punishments and Sentences in the Middle Ages’ in the Amsterdam Torture Museum includes more than 40 instruments of torture from different parts of Europe, from the Inquisition Chair to the Guillotine. These are illustrated with historical engravings and background information.

Under certain conditions, the exhibition can be photographed or filmed. You can ask for permission through the form below. Upon request, also a historical guided tour can be arranged.

The Torture Museum has been founded in 1988 with the idea, that torture and death penalty belong in the museum. Visitors are being informed about actions of Amnesty International and human rights treaties.
